FAQ
What is an elixir and how is it different from a juice?
Our elixirs are functional concentrates. not juices. Each bottle contains 16 servings of 30ml each. They're formulated with specific ingredients that work together for a purpose, not just pressed fruit. Think of it less like a drink and more like a daily ritual in a bottle.
Why do you add black pepper and coconut oil to turmeric?
Turmeric alone is almost completely unabsorbable by the body. Black pepper contains piperine, which inhibits the enzyme that breaks down curcumin before your body can use it. Coconut oil provides the fat curcumin needs to enter your bloodstream. Together they increase absorption by up to 2,000%. That's the science behind every bottle we make.
How much should I take and when?
One ounce (30ml) every day is all you need. Most of our community takes it first thing in the morning, straight as a shot, mixed with warm water, or added to sparkling water. Hot, cold, or in a mocktail. There's no wrong way. Consistency is what matters.
How long does one bottle last?
One 500ml bottle gives you 16 daily servings about two weeks of your morning ritual. It's a concentrate, not a juice. A little goes a long way.
Do the elixirs need to be refrigerated?
Yes, keep your elixir refrigerated as soon as you received it or purchased it.
Are your elixirs vegan?
Most of our elixirs contain raw honey and are not vegan. However we do offer a Honey-Free Lemon Turmeric Elixir and our Shrubs, which are fully vegan. Check each product page for details.
Are your ingredients organic?
We source the best natural ingredients we can find, local where possible, organic where it matters most. Our turmeric, ginger, and lemons are organic. We don't make sourcing decisions based on shelf life or cost, we make them based on what's best in the bottle.
What is a Shrub?
A shrub is an old-world drinking vinegar , one of the oldest wellness traditions in the world. Ours combines apple cider vinegar with our elixir base for a tart, complex, deeply functional concentrate. It supports gut health, digestion, and immune function through a completely different mechanism than our standard elixirs. Mix it with sparkling water, add to a mocktail, or take it straight.
Where are you made?
Every elixir is brewed by hand in small batches at our 12,500 sq ft kitchen on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada. By Mel's family. The same way it's always been done.
